THSR Train Timetable Information (mobile version)

THSR Miaoli Station was officially opened in December 1, 2015 and has a simple exterior appearance, representing the simple and unadorned spirit of the Hakka people. Its simple geometric metal frames portray the simple three-dimensional style of the building. It also simulates the sunlight angle of Houlong, Miaoli, which opens and closes its windows according to the weather to resonate the evergreen ecological image inside and outside the station.

The horizontal station design is a metaphor to the velocity of high speed rail. The building was constructed with modular, pre-casted, lightweight construction methods along with local construction materials. It also uses energy-saving facilities such as metal sun visors and solar panels for it to become an eco-friendly green building and achieve the standard of “diamond-level” green building.

Tourist Shuttle

Fun without worries with the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle service: A trip to Nanzhuang will take you to explore this slow city with fun

Located in Miaoli, Nanzhuang Township is considered to be a fairyland in western Taiwan. In Nanzhung, there are multicultural fusion, magnificent natural landscapes, and historical and cultural heritage. There, you will see the vigor of nature and ecology, witness the progression of history and culture, and encounter the charm of cultural pluralism. More important, the abundant agricultural specialties and featured gourmet foods are the taste that visitors and connoisseurs will never forget.

Nanzhuang has passed the certification of Citta slow International HQ in Orvieto, Italy, to become a citta slow for its carefree and relaxing living environment and leisure and quiet living space. Visitors longing for a slow city life should travel to this certified international slow city in Taiwan and explore the “slow” pace in Nanzhuang and experience its charm as a slow city.

Routes

Taiwan Trip has planned three routes for Nanzhuang: the main route – Nanzhuang Route and two branch routes – Xiangtian Lake and Xianshan routes. Visitors can travel to Chunan Railway Station of Taiwan Railway Administration (TRA) and change to Nanzhuang Route of the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle at the station’s East Exit to start their slow city trip. Chunan Railway Station is TRA’s southbound transit station to Miaoli and the interchange of TRA’s Mountain Line and Coastal Line. It is also very convenient to get to Chunan via National Highway 1 and National Highway 3. Therefore, Chunan is an ideal start for visitors from afar to visit Nanzhuang.

After arriving at the Nanzhuang terminus of Taiwan Tourist Shuttle, visitors can begin strolling across the Guihua Lane as shown in the stroll map at a slow pace and taste local specialty foods: dumplings with sweet olive wine, Mother-in-Law dougan (dry bean curd), Yijayi (One Cream Puff) Japanese handmade egg rolls, etc. After Guihua Lane, visitors can turn to the Nanzhuang Old Post Office and the borough head residence in the Japanese period for an ujikintoki kakigori (Japanese-style matcha shaved ice) to feel the vintage Japanese flavor. Visitors can also visit the Nanzhuang Cinema Restaurant to see an old film and taste authentic Hakka dishes at the same time to experience the life in early Nanzhuang thriving for the mining industry. After the old street tour, visitors can continue with an in-depth travel by taking the Xiangtian Lake or Xianshan route.

Taiwan Trip

Nanzhuang Route

Via:Chunan Railway Station (East Exit)→Miaoli Bus (Toufen terminus)→Toufen Backyard Garden (Touhuaping)→Sanwan→Lion's Head Mountain Historic Trail Entrance→Longmenkou (Quanhua Temple)→Gueijhuling→Nanzhuang Junior High School→Nanzhuang→Miaoli Bus Nanzhuang terminus (Nanzhuang Visitor Center)

Nanzhuang Route departs from the east exit of Chunan Railway Station. In addition to taking visitors from northern and southern Taiwan to Nanzhuang, the service provides faster and more convenient transport for visitors to visit Nanzhuang from Sanwan, Toufen, Lion’s Head Historic Trail, and Quanhua Temple so that they can plan their trips with greater flexibility. Please visit the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle Nanzhuang Route for more details.

Xiangtian Lake Route

Via:Miaoli Bus Nanzhuang Terminus→Nanzhuang Visitor Center→Dongjiang Tribe→Hengpingbei Tribe (Hengpingbei Fish Eco-Trail)→Donghe Suspension Bridge (Walu Industrial Cultural Center)→Xiangtian Lake (Museum of Saisiyat Folklore)

Located in Donghe Village at an elevation of 738m, Xiangtian Lake was a very deep lake. It was named “Yangtian” (looking up to the sky) because its surface faces the sky. After hundreds of years, the lake bank collapsed due to erosion at the source. After water flowed away, the fertilize lakebed became the farmland of ancient Saisiyats. Today, Taiwan cypress (Taiwania cryptomerioides) and Makino bamboo (Phyllostachys makinoi) are widely grown in the lake basin to surround the lake with greenery. Located at a high elevation, the lake is often covered by flying white clouds and dense mist to bring a kind of mysterious beauty. If the weather is fine, the reflection of the great green mountains around on the lake forms an exceptionally gorgeous picture in nature, making it a fairyland in the human world! Visit the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle Xiangtian Lake Route for more details.

Xianshan Route

Via:Miaoli Bus Nanzhuang Terminus→Nanzhuang Visitor Center→Li Jing Guan→Xiaodonghe Tribe→Nanjiang Recreational Agricultural District→Siazhuang→Penglai River Ecology Park→Erping Tribe→42 Tribe (I)→42 Tribe(II)→Baguali Tribal Village→Xian Mountain Temple

Xianshan Route mainly runs along County Highway 124 by the Penglai River which is the first river shut down by the Miaoli Government for fish protection. Since locals voluntarily started the fish protection movement in 2002, their achievements were recognized in 2004, and the local government thus established Miaoli’s first ecology park there. Today, it has become a popular ecotourism spot. Located in Shitan Township, Xian Mountain Temple built in the 1940s is a famous temple with many worshippers. Situated at an elevation of over 900m, the temple pacifies many worshippers for its location at the middle of the Xianshan where clouds surround and its splendid scenery which refreshes people and makes them forget about all the troubles behind. Visit Taiwan Tourist Shuttle Xianshan Route for more details.
