There are plenty of hiking trails suitable for day trips in Miaoli County, such as Huoyanshan, Xianshan, Manapang Mountain, and Jiali Mountain Trails, as well as Mingfeng Historic Trail.
Climate-wise, Huoyanshan sets northern and southern Taiwan apart, and gravel badlands makes it truly unique. For this, Huoyanshan Hiking Trail has remained highly popular in recent years. Xianshan of Shitan is a popular hiking trail for the religious sites it meanders through. Manapang Mountain is located in Dahu, the “kingdom of strawberries,” and there are hot springs nearby. Mingfeng Historic Trail links up Toufen and Shitan. In early years, Dr. Mackay took this route to visit patients in Miaoli. The trail thus has much historical and cultural importance.
