Formerly known as the Tiger Islet, Hutou Mountain rests on the northern side of the city, facing the North. It keeps northeastern monsoons away. At about 93 meters above the sea level, verdant Hutou Mountain looks like a fierce tiger howling at the sky. At the mountaintop, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the sea and the sky. In fact, “tidal views from the Tiger Islet” was known as the most impressive scenery of Tongxiao in the past.
Four historical monuments can be found at Hutou Mountain: Taiwan Retrocession Monument, old cannons, Japanese shrines, and Shougong Shrine. The old cannons were set during the Japanese Rule, allegedly for the Russo-Japanese War. The eco-friendly park which brings together natural scenery and conservation is a great place for taking a leisurely walk.
