The annual Miaoli Ocean Festival was just inaugurated for the 14th time. To promote this event, the Agriculture Department of Miaoli County Government held a press conference on August 19 at the County Hall Lobby. Working with Taiwan Power Company and CPC Corp., the department also promotes slow fishing and eco-tourism this year, in addition to Miaoli’s beautiful coasts, food, and fishery village culture.
On August 22, a music concert for the ocean festival took place at Waipu Fishing Port of Houlong Town. Famous artists such as Golden Melody Awards winner Weng Li-you (“Only You”) and popular singer Jun-Shuo Lou contributed a few songs. Food and artsy products were sold on site. Advocating environment protection, DIY classes which turned garbage into creative goods were held, too.
On August 23, at Shuiwei Beach, a fun traditional fishing event was held. Visitors young and old were encouraged to learn about the tradition and help one another while fishing. The event was free of charge and limited to 100 participants only. The event was especially suitable for those curious about slow fishing.
On September 2, at Xinpu Fishing Port in Tongxiao, the county government held another special event for local students. After teachers explained how meaningful it is to set baby fish free, the county magistrate led the students to put more than ten thousand baby fish into the sea, and advocated sustainable ecological development.
On a side note, the county government kindly asked people to keep proper social distance, wear masks, and wash hands often at music concerts. The concert attendants should also provide their real names and contact information at the entrance. On the day of the event, if they don’t feel well, their body temperature (on the forehead) is over 37 Celsius degrees, or they have respiratory symptoms, they should leave the venue immediately, so as to protect themselves and others.
