Situated between Jiouhu Village of Tongluo Township and Nanhe Neighborhood of Tongxiao Town, the trail dates back to the years of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty. It links up Yuanli, Tongxiao, and Tongluo, transporting the sea salt of Tongxiao to Tongluo. “Tiaoyan” literally means transporting salt.
The trail is well shielded by trees, including a 1km-long section featuring old red cedar trees. The section is quite gentle and it takes just 30 minutes to walk through. This makes it suitable for families with children and elders.
The low-altitude broad-leaf forests here include a mix of trees, such as acacia, tung, and bayan. Ferns are everywhere, too. Tiaoyan Historic Trail is even famous for beautiful tung blossoms in April and May.
