Miaoli Slow Fish took place not long ago on Saturday, October 30, at Longfeng Fishery Port in Zhunan. The event adopted three themes, “local fishing methods,” “slow fish observations,” and “oceanic entertainment” to show visitors a different face of Miaoli. A few side-activities were held, such as traditional seine-fishing, a local seafood feat, ecological mini-tours, slow fish games, skimboarding, slow fish markets, and live performances by local artists. All visitors were cordially invited to explore Miaoli and its slow fish movement, as well as enjoying a wonderful town vacation by mountains and the sea.
In fact, slow fish has been promoted in Miaoli for three years. This year, all related industries join forces and contribute their resources. Maioli County Government, the region’s four coastal towns’ offices, fishermen’s associations, and slow fish groups also promote infrastructure projects along the coasts and across ministries. While just a few years ago the county government was still advertising Miaoli as a tourist mountain town, it now touts Miaoli as a place of slow fish. By addressing the following five topics - blue oceans, traditional fishing, ocean education, ocean organizations, and ocean tourism, the county government hopes to promote coastal tourism in Miaoli more effectively, such as fishery port sightseeing, ocean entertainment, and ocean conservation. At Miaoli Slow Fish, people not only can learn about Miaoli with a different perspective, but also learn how to thrive with oceans.
