This earth layer contains shell fossils that took shape about 1 to 6 million years ago, including double-shell shells, pteropods, and coral reefs. During the Japanese Rule in 1930, Taiwan Governor-General Office already decided to preserve the fossils. In 1955, Miaoli County Cultural Conservation Committee set up a stone plate here, announcing that the area is limited to archeological research and not for other purposes. The fossils have been preserved since then.
